Program Overview

Summer Camp - A Great Russian Tradition

Every summer thousands of children head off for camps across Russia, from the shores of Lake Baikal to the beaches of the Black Sea. Each camp has its own philosophy, but all provide children a place to relax while having fun in an outdoor setting. In many ways, these camps resemble those in the United States and Canada. They are usually located in rural settings, miles away from the nearest town. Typically, a camp will have a large dining hall, crafts, sports buildings, and dormitories. Children usually come for sessions lasting 10 to 28 days. Many camp activities take place in the beautiful Russian countryside, often by a lake or river, which provides a glorious setting for swimming, boating and canoeing. Other activities may include theater, land sports, arts, crafts, dance, and the performing arts.

Work with Russian Children

You will be volunteering to work with children, sharing your culture and language while learning theirs as well.  In most cases, you will assist wherever needed.

The Camp Counselor

As a counselor, you are a teacher, a leader and a friend to a group of children between the ages of 7 and 17. You are responsible for the safety and well being of your campers and for giving them the time of their lives!  You spend most of the day outdoors. All counselors perform a wide variety of duties and each day brings something new. It's a challenge and one of the most rewarding things you will ever do. By the end of the summer, you will have discovered a lot about the Russian culture and yourself.

Share Your Culture & Traditions

Be prepared to share your culture and traditions with the Russian children and counselors.  You will be expected to teach English lessons.  At some camps this will be done in an informal way through activities, reading, songs, sports, and games.  In other camps you may be required to teach English in a more formal, classroom setting.  Plan to incorporate cultural lessons throughout the activities you share.

Program options

You will be able to choose from an 8 week camp or a 4 week camp giving you flexibility and choice for your summer - for more information please email Caity on Caityk@ccusa.com.

This Program is NOT for everyone!

Life as a counselor in Russia is all about releasing the inner adventurer inside of you. It’s delving deep into the realm of the unknown and fully immersing yourself into a new culture.

Russian Camps offer campers from all backgrounds, the opportunity to learn valuable life skills in a nurturing environment. The children you’ll meet will keep you on your toes around the clock. They’ll look to you for guidance; to teach them, to eat with them, to share living quarters with them and to answer all of their inquisitive questions about everything their eager minds are fascinated by.

You need to be open minded to adapt to new customs, traditions and approaches to the summer camp model. Though this program shares similarities to summer camps across America, be prepared to experience all that Russian culture has to offer; from the food & language to their climate & camp locations.

Summer camp work is demanding, but the rewards are endless. With the right attitude, open mind and a willingness to learn, this will be the most rewarding experience of your life!
